We've been to the DSA establishment at Cardington in Bedfordshire to trial the new, practical motorcycle test which will become mandatory from October 2008. The new test is being introduced due to pressure from certain countries within the European community, and is intended to improve the proficiency of motorcyclists and moped riders, both abroad and in the UK. From October 2008, the DSA's practical motorcycle test will evolve into a much tougher, two-part test to include a searching, off-road, eight minute examination of a rider's machine control. If the candidate fails to meet the required standards in the "off-road" element, the European parliament dictates that the "on-road" element should be automatically cancelled and classified as a "fail". Why the changes? European Law has dictated these changes to try to minimise motorcycle accidents. The "Eurocrats" have spoken and their word will become UK law in October 2008. The time to take your bike test is NOW. |
